Experience the intimate world of Dorothy Wordsworth through her vivid journals. These writings offer an unparalleled glimpse into the daily life of the poet William Wordsworth and his circle, capturing the landscapes and inspirations behind his most beloved poems. Discover the spontaneity and immediacy of Dorothy's observations, from the mundane details of country living to profound reflections on poetry, friendship, and nature. The Grasmere Journal, begun in 1800, chronicles her life at Dove Cottage, detailing walks, weather, friends, and the composition of poetry. The earlier Alfoxden Journal from 1797-8 captures the Wordsworths' time near Coleridge in Somerset. These journals, never intended for publication but to 'give Wm Pleasure by it,' are a testament to Dorothy's unique perspective, as Wordsworth himself stated, 'she gave me eyes she gave me ears.' This edition provides rich explanatory notes to illuminate the places and people described, bringing you closer to Dorothy's hurried, captivating prose.
