About the Books The Chrestomanci sequence follows the powerful enchanters known as Chrestomanci, government officials who regulate the use of magic across a web of parallel worlds. In Charmed Life , orphaned siblings Cat and Gwendolen are taken to Chrestomanci Castle, where hidden talents and rivalries soon surface. The Lives of Christopher Chant and Conrad's Fate explore the younger years of the enchanter himself, travelling between worlds and untangling family secrets. The Magicians of Caprona introduces a feuding pair of Italian spell-casting families whose rivalry threatens their city, while Witch Week takes readers to a boarding school where witchcraft is forbidden and suspicion runs high. Mixed Magics gathers four shorter linked stories that widen the Chrestomanci universe, and The Pinhoe Egg brings the series to a close with a mystery involving hidden creatures, family folklore, and a return to familiar faces at the Castle. Across all seven books, Jones combines sharp humour, inventive worldbuilding, and unpredictable plotting that rewards both new and repeat readers. Themes of identity, belonging, and responsible use of power run throughout, keeping the series a firm favourite for readers moving into longer fantasy fiction.
